The Modi Government has dissolved the Indian NPC and replaced it - TopicsExpress

The Modi Government has dissolved the Indian NPC and replaced it by NITI (National Institution for Transforming India), which makes sense in the evolving development stage that India is in now. I think the name of the body (NITI) could have been better, although the acronym sounds good. The resolution by the parliament is verbose and at times high sounding, but that is the privilege of the Indian parliament. The announcement has many good points, showing that the move is forward looking. It shows the confidence of India, which has emerged as the third largest economy in the world (PPP terms) - quite an achievement for a country with the perception that it was mired in pervasive poverty, corruption and misgovernance for too long. Among the many good points in the announcement, I was encouraged to see that NITI envisions a positive role for NRI too (see below). I am sure this will inspire Nepal also to include NRNs as one of the catalytic agents for Nepals development. - AA f. The Non-Resident Indian community, which is spread across more than 200 countries, is larger in number than the population of many countries of the world. This is a significant geo-economic and geo-political strength. Future national policies must incorporate this strength in order to broaden their participation in the new India beyond just their financial support. Technology and management expertise are self-evident areas where this community can contribute significantly.
