The Morinville and District Chamber of Commerce (MDCC) is fully supporting Town Council’s decision to appoint interim Mayor Boddez until the October Election. “Mayor Boddez has been instrumental in making Morinville a wonderful place to live and do business,” said MDCC President, Simon Boersma. “On behalf of the entire MDCC membership, we thank him for his passion and dedication to our community.” Initially the MDCC called for the mayor’s chair to be filled in a snap by-election, but that was before any candidate said they were not seeking re-election. Given Mayor Boddez’s decision to not run in the upcoming election, his choice creates a situation that is fair to all candidates and that is what businesses want to see. “Businesses want stability and a level playing field,” says MDCC Director and Policy Chair, David Marshall. “Given Mayor Boddez’s esteemed career, contribution to the community, and the fact he is not running makes this an obvious choice, but his leadership and experience on Council will be greatly missed.” As a trustee, Rotary member, and councillor, Mayor Boddez’s strong sense of community and business background has been instrumental in helping Morinville be a great place to raise a family. Whether helping students learn about Rotary programs or helping create parks, he has always put Service Above Self and Morinville residents and businesses are better for it. “The Chamber would like to thank Mayor Boddez for all his remarkable contributions on Council and in the community, notably his work with the Morinville Rotary,” said Boersma. “We congratulate the Mayor on this appointment and look forward to working with him until the election.” The Morinville and District Chamber of Commerce is committed to promoting the Morinville District as a leading business centre and in cooperation with others, to support, expand, and diversify business opportunities.
