The Muriwai Callout squad responded to a callout for 2 fishermen stuck south of Maori Bay at 5.27pm this evening (Sun 16 Nov). Thanks to the great work of the lifeguards, the 2 fisherman we successful rescued, one was extracted by Westpac Rescue and the other was taken out in an IRB. The one taken out by Westpac Rescue was not wearing a life jacket, he was extremely cold, starting to suffer from hypothermia and was flown to Hospital. The other who had a life jacket was warm and did not need any assistance once back on shore. This once again shows the value and importance of life jackets.
