The NCGA Common Core Study Committee is right now in the process of haggling on the terms of their upcoming proposal, which will be voted on at their meeting this week. It is important to contact them right now & let them know a few things: 1) that removing common core will not suffice to rid us of the disaster. We must also have the testing mandates & bribery compliance removed (the well do this for this money aspect of our statutes) - and that NO AMOUNT OF MONEY is worth sacrificing our sovereignty over our own childrens education 2) that even if we remove EVERYTHING that was added to the statutes, including the testing mandates, that this does NOT prohibit teachers that LIKE common core from using it in their own classrooms! Nor does it prohibit the state board of education from continuing to recommend it. It ONLY removes the MANDATE on the state board & on the local boards. Therefore this must be done all the way as just a FIRST STEP. 3) that the residents are adamantly opposed to rttt federal mandates, NO EXCEPTIONS. Any compromise is still SELLING OUT OUR CHILDREN & the voters will be asking WHO & WHY. ------ Also ask committee members to call for a RECORD VOTE, not a voice vote, in every single thing that is voted on at the meeting, so that we can know who stands where on this issue.
