The NZ fur seal population has increased 350 per cent in the past 25 years, and the abundant population is harming more than just fish stocks - the little penguin, giant cuttlefish, sea lions and squid are also said to be impacted. Some of these species are endangered, and seals either act as predators or out-compete other species for food. There is also concern about the production of fisheries, and the costs involved in managing seal interactions.
