The National Audit Office of Tanzania (NAOT) is delighted to announce the appointment of Prof. Mussa Juma Assad Controller and Auditor General (CAG) of theUnited Republic of Tanzania effective from 5th November, 2014 by H.E Prof. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete President of the United Republic of Tanzania. Prof. Assad was sworn infor the post on 2nd December 2014. President Kikwete has appointed Prof. Assad to fill the position left vacant by Mr. Ludovick Silemwa Lemge Utouh who retired in September 2014. Prior to his appointment as Controller and Auditor General, Prof. Assad was Associate Professor at the Department of Accounting at the University of Dar es Salaam. He has also served in various capacities in the accounting field as well as being the chairman of the National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA) for seven (7) years from 2007 – 2014. Prof. Assad is also the president of the Pan African Federation of Accountants and Auditors effective from 2012 and he is a member of various Boards of Director in the country. He is a highly respected, erudite and brilliant person with vast experience in accounting/ auditing and financial management matters. At the beginning of Prof. Assad’s career he worked for five years with the defunct Tanzania Audit Corporation the period in which he was intrigued into the virtues of the auditing profession.
