The Need for Black Lawyers: Orta and Garner © By Alton H. Maddox, Jr. Thirty years ago, I was the victim of a judicial frame-up. Law enforcement agents charged me with assault on a court officer and obstructing governmental administration. Approximately, thirty lawyers filed notices of appearance on my behalf. These were social engineers who were pursuing justice. A chokehold is illegal under New York law. Arthur Miller and Luiz Baez were also victims of chokeholds. None of the rogue cops have been arrested or charged with a crime for the death of Eric Garner despite probable cause. They are still on the police payroll and enjoying generous benefits. I will be asking Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman of the New York Court of Appeals to end the judicial bullying and allow me to represent Ramsey Orta under the Sixth Amendment. I have paid a price nearly five times over since 1990 for representing my people pro bono. I had enjoyed a license to practice law. The Black community has suffered from a lack of legal representation. I am asking you, as a victim of a lack of legal representation, to complain to Chief Judge Lippman at (518) 455-7700 and Gov. Andrew Cuomo at (518) 474-8390. Contact a Black lawyer and request that he or she appear in the Richmond County Supreme Court on Friday, September 5, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. Attorneys are also invited to the Brooklyn Christian Center, 1061 Atlantic Avenue (bet. Classon and Franklin) in Brooklyn on this Wednesday, September 3 at 7:00 p.m. to receive further instructions. Ministers and imams are also encouraged to attend this forum. This discussion is about Safe Streets: Safe Cities.
