The New All Inclusive PROPERTY TAX. Called in to see my - TopicsExpress

The New All Inclusive PROPERTY TAX. Called in to see my accountant today, who presented me with the new property tax bill. This now has to be paid in 5 equal installments, the first being due before 31st August and the last by 31st December, failure to pay by theses dates will result in a penalty. As far as i am aware the Greek tax office will not send you the bill, but will go electronically to your accountant, who should then contact you. Payments can be made at the Banks, the Greek tax office, will issue you a special code that accesses your account, the bank teller will enter this code, and the amount will be deducted from your property tax account. If the house is joint names as 50/50 you and your partner will pay equal amounts(,unlike the income tax demand that is normally in the mans name but pays for both) so you will both be issued with a code number.you cannot pay your partners share with your code number. As is the way with the Greek tax office, if you think you are being charged too much, you must register your complaint by the 31st of November, but you are still required to pay the full monthly payments by the due date. How much you pay will depend on the OBJECTIVE VALUE of your property, land etc,not the market value or what you think your property is worth. From what i was told for my area, for every 1000 euro of property value i will pay just under 6 euro in Property tax. I am not trying to scare here , just trying to inform that the property tax is now due,and that we dont have long before the first installment is due,so if you have not been in recent contact with your accountant, it may be a good idea to ring them. Income tax change for Nationals residing in Greece has also recently changed. The Greek tax office now wants positive proof of residency for tax purpose .If you live here more than 183days a year your worldwide income is now taxable and collectable by the Greek state, unless you can prove other wise. As always all tax affairs and Questions should be talked over with your accountant and the tax office, Hope this was helpful, just wanted to make people aware the new property tax is now pyable.(if you want to )
