The New Karlen Report: Adam loves to talk, which I dont mind; he has the most fabulous baritone voice. He said John continues to improve and, as of now, attending the Tarrytown festival looks like a green light. He cant believe how much better John is; at one point our guy was down to 129 lbs. Jim Pierson was by to see him, and Adam got to meet David Selby and Jim Storm when they visited. Tyne Daly came over to take John to lunch and didnt mind that JK was in a bad mood. She threw his walker in back of her car and said Lets go. Adam frequently mentions Jimmy Luisi who was a close friend of Johns. They did Killers Delight together. I asked Adam if he had any old photos of his dad. Alas, there were no childhood pics but he may be able to find a military one. He said John and Betty brought to the Emmy Awards a picture from their wedding of him with Robert Redford (who was an usher)--someone had asked to see it--but it was stolen from their car. Here, talk to Uncle Don! Adam thrusts the phone to someone else. Uncle Don is Johns oldest friend from when they lived in Brooklyn and was his best man at his wedding. Later he became a Hollywood producer and is currently working on a new script. A very friendly guy, he gave me his email address and told me to send him a picture and resume. Uh, no problem. Then Adam jumped back on the line to ask if I watch Girls on HBO. Well, I have to, he said, its the best. Likewise, I told him to watch Orange is the New Black.
