The Newark Police are currently investigating a dog attack, which occurred at approximately 1:00pm today, inside a home in the unit block of Adelene Drive in the City of Newark. At the time of the incident an eight year old female and a fifteen year old female were in their home when the eight year old was attacked by a Pit Bull dog which also resides at the home. After the attack the fifteen year old child called 911, however the Pit Bull dog remained in the room with the children preventing them from escaping. NPD Officers responded to the scene and when they arrived the fifteen year old was able to carry the eight year old from the room. The dog remained aggressive towards the officers preventing medical treatment for the eight year old. The dog was therefore shot and killed by an NPD Officer. NPD Officers then carried the child from the home and turned over medical treatment to New Castle County Paramedics and Aetna Ambulance members. The eight year old child was transported to A.I. DuPont Children’s Hospital and then airlifted to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia were she is listed in critical condition.
