The Nile Queen At the bank of Tuti Island, where the Blue and the White Niles make their hug…. She stood there with her tall stretched figure... As the dusk was casting its sleepy colors on the river. And every now and then, the harrying shadows of the flying birds, at a flashlight speed plotted the golden water surface as they eagerly returned to their woven nests. She was ready to start her northern boat-journey to where the capital city of her kingdom lies, by the river side watching the skies, So young and proud.. Of its high pyramids erecting like her virgin breasts. On every moons fourteenth night Very delighted by the sacred scene The river- side- dwellers queue to see The passing boat hurrying with their brave queen Like an Arabian horse spurred by its knight In the next day morning, the river bank at Merawe, crowded with the army officers, the kingdom youngsters and the priest, Would live the monthly event of seeing their beautiful queen So bravely paddling her boat down the stream Happily excited by the enchanted people. They would all meet her but were all astonished For the mysterious habit of her monthly journey Save one person who revealed the secret that morning And was happily waiting for next moon’s fourteenth night. A month later, when the queen was launching her boat at Tuti Island, She was surprised by a hushing sound on the grass And, when so frightened turned her face backwards, She was unexpectedly faced by Hamiedo , the army leader She was caught by an exciting feeling That mixed terror with pleasure And love with shiver “ I want to be your blue and you be my white Then we go together Like the Nile river so united as one to the end of life” Hameido , confidently said , as if revealing a password. “Sure, my lovely knight” She gave her word. And , like the Blue Nile hugs the white He hugged her taking her into the boat. And that night… The riverside dwellers saw too bodies facing Northward Paddling their boat to what looked like an eternity. And from that night , there was a queen and a king For the kingdom of Merawe.
