The Normal Heart... a very, very fine HBO Movie that premiered Sunday night. Based on Larry Kramers play that first appeared in 1985. It seems just as relevant today, if not more. It captures the joy that quickly turned to horror and fear as the aids outbreak spread. The cast is excellent with Mark Ruffalo, as a powerful activist, and, an unadorned Julia Roberts as an early doctor so aware of what was happening, others Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights), Matt Bomer (White Collar), Jim Parsons (Big Bang Theory) and Alfred Molino are all excellent. These wonderful actors portray the conflicting attitudes and emotions of the New York gay community as indifference and denial, (in the gay community and on the part of Regan who for 3 years failed to utter the word AIDS) turn into panic, anger, and despair as friends and lovers die. But it also tells a very human story far beyond the subject matter and time. This is avery difficult movie about a very difficult subject, but worth every minute of your time.
