The North East is lagging behind when it comes to the number of nominations for honours. Weve exclusively been told that only 3.1 per cent of honours this year went to people in our region. Nationally, up to 1,300 people are recognised through the honours system each year. The Governments appealing for more people to nominate North Easterners for awards like the MBE and British Empire Medal. - Although they get a lot of the publicity, you dont have to be a celebrity to be honoured, but are the right people being recognised?
