The Passing of Freedom….. I’m sure most of you saw the publicity related to this story on TV and in the West Australian. ‘Little Wings’ was an early work by Stormie Mills that was painted on the wall at the back of his office and studio in Northbridge. The Building was owned by Stormie’s wife Melissa Lekias. For many years, the iconic work was mostly concealed by an adjacent building and became highly visible when the building in Fitzgerald Street was demolished. This early work valued at $20000 was painted over due to a local government bungle. .... A powerful message appeared overnight. Its claimed the the police were going to lay in wait for the brown paint to be attacked by graffiti artists in order to catch them in the act’. A long and generous apology by the Mayor of Vincent John Carey did somewhat placate Stormies anger, he did cool down somewhat, and was really moved by Mayor John Carey’s words. He decided to paint a new work. And so, on the morning of 12th May 2014 Stormie put all behind him and set his Mojo to work... Rebirth.... Stormie Mills completed The Passing of Freedom on the night of 12th May 2014. He quoted Jim Morrison on his Facebook page…. “The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are. You trade in your reality for a role. You trade in your sense for an act. You give up your ability to feel, and in exchange, put on a mask. There cant be any large-scale revolution until theres a personal revolution, on an individual level. Its got to happen inside first.” On completion of the new work Stormie had a batch of ‘Little Wings’ stickers made which he sold to Australian residents only for $5 each with all profits going to support Angels Goal Inc. the Australian Anti Bullying Organization. The project received amazing support. The last photo shows one of the stickers in my entry foyer.....
