The Pelican Brief movie is just about the closest translation from - TopicsExpress

The Pelican Brief movie is just about the closest translation from book to movie I think Ive ever seen. There are a few nitpicks I found, however. (Obviously, spoilers going forward). When Shaw is in Callahans class, she is the only one talking. No one in the class is talking at all. Ever. When Khamel is killed (Stanley Tucci), he and Darby are already on the ferry, not approaching it. While Tucci pulls off a Middle Eastern villain well, Julia Roberts doesnt quite fit the bill as young and attractive to me. Shes not pulling off the short skirt, high heels wearing character (pre-writing of the brief) Grisham wrote. Even before Shaw writes the brief, Roberts is dressing conservatively and plainly, trying not to be found. The last thing Ill mention is that the movie doesnt correctly portray the amount of time that passes. From start to finish, the book takes place in about 2 weeks time. The movie portrays the story taking place in a lot less time.
