The Philosophical-religious traditions of the East created a very vivid and apt conception called The Path (Dharma) The Path means a particular way of living and behaving conditioned by a code of ethics and by a system of technical instructions governing different aspects of practical everyday life, such as diet, methods of fighting, meditating, breathing, etc. Observing the rules of The Path was supposed to help in achieving higher levels of wisdom, or in the case of determined Yogis and Monks, the final insight into the nature of human self and surrounding world. I dare to express the conviction that mountaineering, by reason of the remarkable qualities it contains, may turn into a precious method of physical and spiritual growth. Referring to the tradition of The Path, I would like to call this method The Path of the Mountain. Voytek Kurtya, from N.OConnell, Beyond Risk: Conversations with climbers
