The Pike Place Market had their big fundraising dinner tonight. So that meant that there was limited access to the north end of the market, due to preparations that were being made for their Sunset Supper. For instance, the UPS driver had to park at the very south end of the market and use his hand truck to make his deliveries and pick up packages, carrying his them about two blocks. He was bringing a hand truck full of boxes back to his truck, when I noticed something that wasnt right. With one hand, he was pushing his heavily loaded hand truck and with his other hand, he was dragging, thats right I said dragging, a large tubular shaped package along the cobble stoned street. As he passed me on the street, I noticed that the tube was clearly marked FRAGILE and though it was his j-o-b to handle the packages in his charge with care, apparently this package, marked specifically for that very reason, didnt rate his best effort. I was shocked and stunned to see this. I have paid a great deal of money for my packages, many of them equally fragile or more so, to be delivered via UPS. Is this how they train they employees to handle valuable packages??? Im reminded of the beginning scene of the film Pet Detective, featuring Jim Carrey as Ace Ventura, where he poses as a delivery person. youtu.be/2Q6_9A90cUk
