The Pony that just keeps giving Following the astonishing success the HHO horses and ponies had at Longford Show yesterday, we have decided to give you the background on them all. The first and foremost HHO Cupcake, the pony that can achieve anything, one of the ones that reassure us why we fight so hard. Cupcake came to us as a yearling, frightened, thin with virtually no handling, she was in foal to a jack donkey. Cupcake remained just a shell of a pony for a significant amount of time, she didnt care for humans, they had let her down too badly in the past. At 2 years old Cupcakes personality started to shine through, she started giving us glimpses of the real pony inside her that was craving to come out. She even started to trust us. Although we still had lots of arguments she showed us the bravery, the honesty and youth in her. The life returned to her eyes and she had an air of happiness about her, she began to become a manageable pony, a happy pony even. At three years old Cupcake began her training with HHO, considering the two years of handling she had gotten prior to this, Cupcake was one of the easiest to train last summer. She took everything in her stride, nothing phased her in the slightest, before long she had accepted a rider on her back and was happy to carry them around. A pony that was giving her all. We decided she should have a break, a break from a saddle, once last chance to be silly before her serious training commenced. We brought Cupcake back into training at just 4 years old only 3 short months ago, she took to it like a duck to water, a pony with the heart of a lion, she kept surprising us, taking on any task we asked of her. Committing herself to everything she did. Highlighting the pony she will become, highlighting how far she has already come. Yesterday Cupcake went to her first ever show, her first day out ever, it was the first time she had left our yard. Each one of our hearts pounded as she stepped off the box, bursting with pride that she had made it this far, she looked around the show grounds at all the other horses, dogs, machinery, bouncing castles, loud speakers and ignored it all, she was acting like she had been doing this all her life. As Cupcake and her pilot Aoibhinn walked into the showring, we held our breaths, our hearts were pounding. The whole crew stood to cheer her on. After several minutes the judge indicated that Cupcake come into the centre, oh god it couldnt be could it really? On her first ever day out? After the other ponies were called in, the Judge approached Aoibhinn and Cupcake with a red rossette, some of us beamed, some of us cried, not believing the remarkable pony she had become. Pride cannot describe the way we felt as she did her lap of honour, looking every inch the superstar she was always destined to be, a first timer, a pony that had been betrayed by everyone who she should have been able to trust, takes first place. Our baby all grown up! Proving to us every single day that she has more and more to give. What a little superstar, keep going Cupcake your heart an kindness shines through in every thing you do, we are so proud of you. Well done Aoibhinn on all the hard work you have put in to helping Cupcake be the pony of some ones dreams.
