The Power Drive Woofer can be turned off but the overall sound - TopicsExpress

The Power Drive Woofer can be turned off but the overall sound quality of this unit will be greatly diminished when the super bass woofer is disengaged. This Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox features a sturdy fold-down recessed black carry handle for reliable transport. The sturdy carry handle can be neatly pushed down and tucked away into the main unit when it is no longer needed or when the portable stereo is in a stationary position. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox does not offer dual disc playback, DVD-Audio playback, DVD video playback, DVD recordable media, split-track audio compact disc and cassette playback, Blu-ray disc playback, playback of irregularly shaped audio discs, playback of audio discs encoded with various copyright protection schemes, playback of data compact discs, playback of video compact discs, Dolby B cassette noise reduction, motorized cassette door, full-logic tape transport controls, auto reverse recording, continuous cassette playback, chrome/metal tape playback, speaker balance control, detachable speakers, parametric equalizer, electronic shock protection for the CD Player, backlit LCD, digital clock, alarm clock, mute button, record timer, tape counter, compact disc recorder, Zune Dock, Sony Walkman MP3 Player Dock, Bluetooth music streaming, wireless internet capability, RCA Stereo Input Jack, external FM/AM antenna screw type connectors, 3.5mm Microphone Input Jack, condenser microphone or karaoke entertainment features. Play tunes from an iMac, Mac mini, Mac Pro, MacBook Air, Nokia Lumia, Sharp Sidekick, Sony Xperia Z, Samsung Galaxy S 5, Samsung Galaxy Note II, HTC EVO, Motorola DROID RAZR, LG Connect, HP ENVY, VAIO Laptop, Alienware Aurora gaming desktop, all-in-one desktop computer, HP Mini Netbook, Acer Aspire One Netbook, Lenovo IdeaPad Netbook Tablet, Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet PC, FM HD radio or MP3 Player via an 3.5mm (1/8”) Auxiliary Line Input Jack. Do not purchase any cable to connect an iPod to the Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox. The 3.5mm stereo patch cable needed to make this connection between the stereo and an iPod is built-in to the Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox. However, a Y-audio stereo patch cable is needed to connect a TV, DVD Player, CD Player or VCR to this portable stereo. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend connecting a SiriusXM portable satellite radio tuner to the Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox. The operating instructions and marketing specifications do not specify that this Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP Portable Stereo is SiriusXM satellite radio ready or SiriusXM satellite radio compatible. Sony does not list this Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox as satellite radio ready or satellite radio compatible on its support website at SonyStyle. Reception of satellite radio signals from a satellite radio service provider on the Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox is outside the scope of normal product operation as defined by the manufacturer. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox does not feature satellite radio tuner command and control facilities such as a SiriusXM control module input jack, satellite radio antenna or integrated satellite radio tuner. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox can’t control, measure the signal strength, adjust the signal strength or troubleshoot satellite radio signals that are input into this Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP Portable Stereo. However, a SiriusXM Portable Satellite Radio Tuner’s RCA or 3.5mm Line Output Jack can be connected to the Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox 3.5mm Line Input Jack. Some Sony customers report that a satellite radio tuner plays perfectly through the Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox. Nonetheless, other Sony customers with a SiriusXM Portable Satellite Radio Tuner report their utter disappointment, dissatisfaction and disgust with the Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox’s satellite radio reception. Purchase a satellite radio ready boombox and compatible satellite radio tuner for satellite radio reception. I recommend the Sirius Dock & Play Boombox SUB-X1 for portable satellite radio reception. The manufacturer does not support satellite radio reception on the Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP Portable Stereo does not feature a dedicated Phono Input Jack for connection to a turntable without a phono pre-amp, extra speaker jacks to connect additional speakers, iPod/iPhone dock to charge and offer menu control of an attached iPod/ iPhone or a USB 2.0 HOST Port to play MP3 music files from flash media devices. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox’s 3.5mm Line Input Jack can be connected to the RCA Stereo Line Output Jack of a Sony PS-LX300USB Turntable. A Y-audio adapter such as the RadioShack Gold Series Audio Y-Adapter Model: 274-883 |Catalog #: 274-883 is needed to make this connection. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox does not feature a Phono input. This means that the Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox does not feature a built-in phono preamp equalizer. It is possible to connect a turntable to the 3.5mm Stereo Line Input Jack on the Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox as long as the component stereo turntable features a phono preamp. The Sony PS-LX300USB Turntable does feature a phono preamp and user adjustable equalizer switch that enables this item to be compatible with the Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox. The phono preamp brings the audio output of the Sony PS-LX300USB Turntable up to that of an ordinary line level input device such as a CD player or cassette deck, etc. For example, the Sony PS-LX300USB Turntable’s built-in RCA line output cord can be connected to the black color-coded 3.5mm Line Input Jack on the Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox with a Y-audio adapter because the Sony PS-LX300USB Turntable features a phono preamp. The Sony PS-LX300USB Turntable’s PHONO/LINE EQ Switch must be set to the LINE (EQ ON) position to hear sound from the connected Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox. If the turntable does not feature a phono preamp, then it can’t be connected to this Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox. Rest assured that an iPod’s 3.5mm Stereo Headphone Jack can be connected to the 3.5mm Auxiliary Line Input Jack on the Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP Portable Stereo. In fact, the 3.5mm (1/8”) stereo mini cable needed to make this connection is built-in to the boombox. Optionally, purchase an Apple Universal Dock for Apple iPod and iPhone Model:MC746LL/A or later model to connect an iPod or iPhone to the Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox. Connect the 3.5mm Line Output Jack on the Apple Universal Dock to the 3.5mm Line Input Jack on the Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox with the included 3.5mm boombox stereo patch cable to complete connections. If an iPod dockable portable stereo is needed for the beach, then purchase a Sony boombox with an iPod/iPhone dock. Sony offers the following portable boombox stereos with native iPod docking. 1. Sony ZS-S4IPBLACK, 2. Sony ZS-S3IPBLACK, 3. Sony ZS-S2IPBLACK and 4. Sony RDH-SK8IP. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox does not feature a dedicated (REC OUT) 3.5mm Analog, RCA Stereo or S/PDIF Digital Line Output Jack for connection to a stereo power amplifier, A/V receiver, integrated amplifier, MP3 recorder, cassette recorder, CD recorder, DAT recorder, DCC recorder or MD recorder with a corresponding 3.5mm Analog, RCA Stereo or Optical Digital Line Input Jack. It is not possible to play two different audio sources connected to the 3.5mm Line Input Jacks concurrently. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (F.T.C.) rates the boombox’s stereo power amplifiers at 12 Watts total output power. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox’s main unit product dimensions are: Width: 21-¾ inches, Height: 9-¾ inches, Depth: 14-5/8 inches (551 x 247 x 370 mm w/h/d) and Weight: 18 lbs. 9 oz. (8.4 kg) with D batteries installed. A one year parts and labor limited manufacturer warranty is included. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox is UL Listed. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox remembers the last radio station tuned, input source selection and volume level when powered off. This Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox is reasonably priced for the loud audio and features that you get. Once you listen to this boombox, you will realize that Sony has redefined the boombox product category for the foreseeable future. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP Portable Stereo has a sturdy construction to it and should last for many years with proper care. It is important to compare and contrast the Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP Portable Stereo’s feature set to its older competitive sibling, the Sony XPLOD CFD-G505 boombox. Both Sony XPLOD boomboxes are very close in features, dominant sound performance, ultramodern boombox appearance and total weight. The Sony XPLOD boomboxes offer the same total amplifier output power at 20 Watts (RMS). Neither Sony XPLOD boombox offers a magnetically shielded speaker system. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox offers superior sound quality compared to the Sony XPLOD CFD-G505BLACK boombox. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox features a larger Power Drive Woofer than the other model. As a result, the Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox produces bass output that is on par with expensive component stereos. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP Portable Stereo features two metal tweeters for better sound reproduction of vocals and high-pitched instruments. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G505 Portable Stereo does not feature tweeter drivers. There are some other key differences between the two models. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox offers two 3.5mm Auxiliary Inputs (one main input and one backup input) for connection to audio components. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G505 Portable Stereo features one 3.5mm AUX Line Input Jack for connection to an MP3 player, personal computer or TV, etc. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox offers MP3 CD Playback and the Sony XPLOD CFD-G505 boombox does not. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox’s remote commander provides access to preset tuner stations and CD tracks one station or track at a time. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox’s remote commander does not include a numeric keypad. Conversely, the Sony XPLOD CFD-G505 boombox allows direct preset tuner station and CD track input with a numeric keypad on the remote commander. The Sony XPLOD boombox remote commanders accept Energizer Lithium AA or AAA batteries as a DC power source. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox is compatible with pro American DJ INC. lighting equipment. The Sony D-Light Sync Controller DLS-1 DJ Lighting Controller is an optional accessory for the Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP Ultimate Party Machine Boombox. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox features D-Light Sync Technology. The Sony D-Light Sync Controller must be connected to the D-Light Sync Out Jack located on the rear panel of the Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox. The Sony D-Light Sync Controller DLS-1 must be connected to American DJ D-LIGHT SYNC PAK STAGE LIGHTS to produce spectacular lighting effects for a house party, dance party extravaganza or celebratory entertainment event. The Sony DLS-1 DJ Lighting Controller, acting in concert with the American DJ D-Light SYNC PAK STAGE LIGHTS, reacts to the beats of the music playing and produces an awesome multicolor special effects lighting display from the Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox. A party’s overall excitement level will be dramatically augmented with the customer’s acquisition of the Sony D-Light Sync Controller DLS-1 and compatible American DJ Inc. disco stage lights lighting system. The original Sony factory part number for the DLS-1 D-Light Sync Controller is #A1156464A. The product specifications for the Sony D-Light Sync Controller DLS-1 are: Product dimensions: 4-3/4” x 2-1/4” x 1-1/2” (118.2 x 54 x 35.6 mm), Power requirements: DC 4V, System Weight: 3/16 lb. 3 oz. (84 g including cable) and Product Warranty: one year parts and labor limited manufacturer warranty. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G505 boombox is not compatible with professional DJ lighting equipment. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP Portable Stereo’s remote commander is powered by two AA alkaline batteries. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G505 boombox’s remote commander needs two AAA alkaline batteries to control it from across the room. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G505 Portable Stereo’s remote commander features a green circled AC ONLY Power button. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP Portable Stereo’s remote commander provides a solid green AC ONLY Power button. Both units provide a 27-Key remote commander to control the portable stereo from a short distance away. The Sony XPLOD boomboxes operate on 8 D alkaline batteries and they feature a detachable polarized AC power cord for stationary home use. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G505/G700CP boombox does not have to be plugged in for it to work. Take the Sony XPLOD CFD-G505/G700CP boombox anywhere portable audio equipment is an acceptable entertainment choice even if there is no power outlet available. The D batteries are optional and are not included with the Sony XPLOD CFD-G505/G700CP boombox. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G505/G700CP boombox does not feature a built-in battery for mobile power requirements. I recommend Duracell Coppertop or Energizer Max D alkaline batteries for maximum audio performance and battery life of the XPLOD Portable Stereos. Additionally, I recommend Duracell Ultra Power AA or AAA alkaline batteries or Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA or AAA batteries for the remote commander. The remote commander is compatible with NiMH (1.2V) rechargeable AA batteries. The battery compartment on the main unit consists of two rows of 4 DC positive/negative battery terminals for the placement of 8 D batteries inside. In general, the D batteries for the Sony XPLOD CFD-G505/G700CP boombox should be replaced under the following conditions or circumstances: 1. The boombox does not power on. 2. The boombox shuts off during playback 3. The unit outputs poor or low sound continuously 4. The Red LED OPR/BATT battery life indicator begins to blink continuously. A blinking battery life indicator provides the user enough time to replace the D batteries with new ones to avoid disruption of playback at an inconvenient time such as when using the unit outdoors in the park. The blinking LED OPR/BATT battery life indicator indicates that there is less than 20% of D battery power remaining and it is time for the user to take corrective replacement action as soon as possible. If the LED battery life indicator is blinking, it is time to replace the D alkaline batteries now or at earliest convenience. The D batteries must be installed in reverse polarity inside the XPLOD boombox battery compartments. There is no definitive answer as to the actual time that the D batteries will last. The AA or AAA batteries in the remote commanders should be replaced when they can no longer operate the main units from a short distance away or the portable stereos fail to respond to remote commands. AC power is also available for the Sony XPLOD Stereos. A detachable, polarized AC power cord is supplied with the boombox. The factory AC power cord is approximately 66-inches (5.5ft., 1676.4mm or 167.64cm) in length for the XPLOD boomboxes. The extended power cord length provides for convenient ergonomic placement of the Sony XPLOD CFD-G505/G700CP boombox on a desk, nightstand, table or indoor stable flat surface. If the AC power cord for is lost, a replacement AC power cord can be purchased for the Sony XPLOD CFD-G505/G700CP boombox from the Best Buy Parts Store or the Sony Parts and Accessories Retail Sales Department. The D batteries are automatically disengaged as a direct current power source when the XPLOD boomboxes are plugged into a wall outlet. The AC power cord on the XPLOD CFD-G505/G700CP boombox can be connected to a wall outlet directly, power strip or a power surge protector. All alkaline batteries should be removed from the XPLOD boombox main units and the remote commanders if the portable stereos will not be used for an extended period of time to avoid damage from battery acid leakage. The Sony XPLOD Portable Stereos are compatible with the following D 1.5V battery types: carbon-zinc, alkaline and NiMH rechargeable batteries (1.2V 10,000mAh recommended). The Sony XPLOD CFD-G505/G700CP boombox can’t be powered by a car battery, RV, campgrounds or boat directly. The Sony XPLOD boomboxes do not offer the requisite 12V DC IN Jack for this purpose. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G505/G700CP boombox can be powered from a car battery with a DC-to-AC power inverter. A power inverter converts DC battery power into standard AC current to supply power to portable audio electronics within a vehicle. A high quality power inverter incorporates surge protection, allows for safe engine startup, overload protection, low battery shutdown and is compatible with a vehicle that has a 12 Volt battery. Sony does not provide specifications with respect to compatible power inverters for this Sony stereo. Only the detachable AC power cord can be plugged into the rear panel AC Jack. The Sony XPLOD boomboxes are not compatible for AC power use outside the U.S. and Canada out-of-the-box. Electrical conversion equipment is required for international travels. Use of this boombox outside of the intended domestic market may work but can’t be supported by the manufacturer. The Sony XPLOD boomboxes can work outside of the U.S. and Canada with a Step Up/Down Voltage Converter/Transformer. The voltage transformer converts voltages from 110-120 Volts to 220-240 Volts so that electronic devices intended for the U.S. market can be powered abroad. The Sony XPLOD Portable Stereos also feature the following power output and system specifications: 28-30 Watts AC Power Consumption, bottom panel battery compartment, 7 battery compartment case screws, 6 bottom panel case screws, 5 rear panel case screws, 4 case screws underneath carry handle, serial number sticker inside the battery compartment, place of manufacture sticker, bottom panel battery compartment installation diagram, DC positive/negative battery terminals, 120V, 60Hz AC Power Rating for the main unit, 12V DC Power Rating for the main unit, 3V DC Power Rating for the remote commander, black/silver/red color scheme and red/white/black/green front panel lettering. The Sony XPLOD boomboxes offer multiple printed circuit boards, IC system controllers on main circuit board, ABS plastic casing and spectacular modular boombox panel construction. Neither Sony XPLOD boombox features an auto power-off function or Mute button. The Digital Tuner on the XPLOD CFD-G505/G700CP boombox offers 30 FM/AM Station Presets (20 FM Stereo Presets, 10 AM Mono Presets) and Fixed FM/AM (.1 MHz/10 kHz) Channel Step Tuning. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox features resume play for the CD Player. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G505 boombox’s CD Player does not offer resume play for return to the same chapter audiobook playback. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G505/G700CP boombox provides auto input source recognition when a Tape or CD Play button is pressed. Both XPLOD boomboxes feature mechanical tape transport controls on the main unit only including: Record, Play, Rewind, Fast Forward, Stop/Eject and Pause buttons, Red LED OPR/BATT indicators, D battery polarity installation diagrams, 3-button press complete factory reset procedure (CFD-G700CP only), MADE IN CHINA imprints, tactile dots on CD/Cassette Play buttons, large recessed carry handles, bass-reflex ports, 4 bottom panel mechanical feet, D battery removal factory reset procedures, AC power transformers, auto-switching AC/DC power supply, double-insulated C8 inlet connector AC power cords, thermal overload shutdown protection circuits, air vents for proper cooling, DC-to-AC power inverter compatibility for boombox use on a boat, FM transmitter compatibility, manual tuning controls, preset tuning controls, Mode button, Sound button, Display/Enter/Memory button, Radio Band Button, Power button, Sleep button, Line button, Phase Locked Loop (PLL) Synthesized Tuners, FM Band Stereo Reception, FM Band Mono Reception, AM Band Mono Reception, FM Band IF Tuned Circuit, AM Band IF Tuned Circuit, preset radio station retention after loss of battery or AC power, preset station replacement option, automatic tuning storage systems, nonvolatile memory, Reverse Skip/Search, Forward Skip/Search, Play/Pause and Stop disc transport controls, disc transport controls on remote commander including: Play, Pause, Stop, Forward Skip/Search and Reverse Skip/Search, AMS Music Search Sensor, RMS program, shuffle and repeat CD play modes, program play cancellation options, single-disc playback, 2-channel stereo CD Playback, CD Player Frequency Response: 20-20,000 Hz, CD Player Wow and Flutter: below measurable limit, 8X oversampling digital filter, CD pivot placement holder, repeat single track, repeat all tracks, repeat tracks in random order and repeat tracks in program play CD playback modes, repeat play cancel option, shuffle play cancel options, cassette recording off 3.5mm Line Input source component, 4 Track, 2-Channel Cassette Recorder, Cassette Player Frequency Response: 70-13,000 Hz, single-direction cassette playback, single cassette deck, factory measured D battery life runtimes, combination playback/record head, magnetic erase head, cassette tape erasure, pinch roller, capstan, tape speed adjustment screw, fast winding cassette tape mechanism, cassette door, cassette compartment spring, cassette compartment case screws, sub belt tape pulley, main belt tape pulley, motorized tape travel, U.L. logo, SONY logo, XPLOD logo, F.C.C. logo, CD-R/RW Playback logo, MP3 logo (CFD-G700CP only), CD-DA logo, CD RADIO CASSETTE-CORDER logo, Sony remote commander “R” symbol, D.H.H.S. 21 C.F.R. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox can store up to 15 tracks in program memory while the Sony XPLOD CFD-G505 boombox can store 20 tracks in RMS program memory. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G505 boombox displays the remaining track time, remaining disc playing time and remaining tracks on the audio disc in the LCD. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox displays the current track number and elapsed track play time on a standard audio CD in the LCD. The Sony XPLOD boomboxes feature a full auto stop in tape playback mode. Neither Sony XPLOD boombox features a CD Recorder, iPod/iPhone Dock, microphone jack, condenser microphone, S/PDIF optical or coaxial digital input or output jacks, speaker balance control, backlit LCD, extra speaker jacks, external FM/AM antenna inputs, PA system, karaoke features, USB 2.0 Port, Phono input, 12V DC IN Jack, Preamp Output Jack for connection to a power amp, SiriusXM Satellite Radio Tuner Input Jack, guitar/musical instrument amp, custom equalizer sound modes, P.D.W. bass emphasis on the 3.5mm Stereo Headphone Jack, DVD recordable media playback, Blu-ray Disc Playback, auto-reverse tape playback, auto-reverse cassette recording, continuous tape playback, tape counter, alarm clock, clock or timer recording capabilities. The Sony XPLOD boomboxes feature 5 Preset Sound Modes (5 Preset EQ Curves including a FLAT setting to enhance classical music for the CFD-G505 and ROCK, DANCE, SALSA, REGGAETON and FLAT for the CFD-G700CP. The Power Drive Woofer on both units features 3 Bass Reinforcement Settings. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox features a shorter FM Band telescopic whip antenna than the Sony XPLOD CFD-G505BLACK Portable Stereo. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox features a protective slide out plastic cover over the 3.5mm Line Input Jacks to shield them from inclement weather. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G505 boombox does not provide a protective cover over its 3.5mm Line Input Jack as it is exposed to the natural elements whenever the unit is located outdoors. The LCD clock display features between the two XPLOD boomboxes are not the same with respect to audio disc playback. For example, the Sony XPLOD CFD-G505 boombox can’t display MP3 CD ID3 Tag information or CD Text while the remaining playing time of the track playing is depicted in the LCD. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP Portable Stereo shows MP3 CD File ID3 Tag information and CD Text data in addition to the elapsed running time of the track playing and the total playing time of the audio disc. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP boombox offers similar sound quality to a stereo receiver with large floor standing Hi-Fi tower loudspeakers attached. Nevertheless, the Sony XPLOD CFD-G505 Portable Stereo is the best audio ever heard from a traditional battery-powered boombox. The Power Drive Woofer on both models can be turned off but the overall sound quality will be diminished significantly on when the discretely powered super bass woofer is disengaged. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G505/G700CP boombox features a 3.5mm Stereo Headphone Jack to accommodate private listening sessions on demand. Sony MDR (Micro Dynamic Receiver) Series Extra Bass, DJ Style or Studio Monitor Stereo Headphones should be used to obtain the best possible private listening sessions on both units. FM Band music or AM Band talk radio programs can be archived to cassette tape for time-shift recording purposes. The Sony XPLOD boomboxes features a cassette deck that allows recording off the digital FM/AM Tuner, CD Player or portable audio component including a TV, cable box (TV channel audio only) or computer connected to the 3.5mm (1/8”) AUX Line Input Jack. Pandora Internet Radio or AOL Radio can be recorded to cassette from the PCs 3.5mm Line Output Jack. Use Type I normal bias (ferric-oxide) cassette tapes. Buy ruggedly built Sony HF Series 90-minute cassette tapes, Model: 5C90HFL, for best cassette tape recording results. The Sony XPLOD boomboxes cassette recorder is compatible with any brand of Type I normal bias cassette for playback or recording of a cassette library. Stay away from cheap no name brand cassettes or tapes longer than 120-minutes except for very long playback or continuous recording. AC power should be used for best recording results and to conserve D alkaline battery power. The cassette deck’s combination playback/record head, erase head, pinch roller and capstan should be cleaned with a wet or dry type head cleaning cassette after approximately every 10 hours of use to maintain high quality playback and recording sessions. Purchase a tape head demagnetizer to preserve optimum cassette tape operations after approximately every 30 hours of cassette playback. If you intend to use either Sony XPLOD boombox with senior citizens, I think this is a poor use for a Sony XPLOD boombox. Senior citizens detest bass notes output from a subwoofer. Buy the boombox with the least amount of deep bass performance which is the Sony XPLOD CFD-G505BLACK boombox.
