The Power Of The American Consumer We , as American consumers hold an enormous amount of power in our hands if we would only band together. A company who raises the ire of the American consumer could find itself in the same situation as Market Basket where employees and consumers are boycotting its stores, not for higher wages or lower prices but because of a management change and the threat of unpopular changes that could come with it. I just heard that Burger King is purchasing Tim Hortons so that it can become a foreign company and pay less taxes. Boycott Burger King for planning to move its headquarters out of the USA to avoid US taxes! I dont like Burger King anyway and never go there but they allegedly bought Tim Hortons, a Canadian company to become a foreign company and so avoid taxes. I think this should be illegal and as an American consumer I have the power to not frequent any company that s pulls this kind of move. Just look at the Market Basket debacle where the company has lost approximately 90% of its revenue due to employee protests and consumer boycott.
