The Presidential Battle Ahead (2): The Return of Pere, Ebitimi and Danladi DEFEAT CORRUPTION AND ALL OTHER THINGS SHALL BE ADDED UNTO NIGERIA:Down Memory Lane of 8th February, 2011. Pere:Good day gentlemen and fellow comrades.I am sorry I kept you people waiting for a while.I was trying to analyze the response of Prof.Soludo to Mr.Agangas diatribe.I am famished and could eat an elephant this moment. Ebitimi:I placed the orders already with the exception of your choice of wine.I am drinking mineral water today because I want my head to be screwed properly when I demand answers from you while we eat. Danladi:I am toeing the path of Oga Ebitimi because I desire a good state of mind to subject your answers to strict proof. Pere:You know that dry red wine is my favourite while eating and that is what I will take today.In the meantime we can start the discussion or is it a Q&A session while we wait for the food.Are we in agreement on this? Ebitimi:I want to know the difference between Buhari/Bakare and the rest of the presidential tickets.I need to see a clear difference before I cast my vote. Pere:I will not waste your time with a complex answer my brother.The difference is the incorruptibility of the Buhari/Bakare ticket.You are well aware that over 70% of our annual appropriations at all levels of governance are lost to corruption.You can imagine what 70% of the budget can do to a nation crying for development.When the presidential ticket of a political party is clothed in integrity,incorruptibility,probity and accountability,every other thing falls into place. Ebitimi:I admit that he has maintained a clean slate in all his public service,but I heard something about missing N2.8billion when he was Petroleum Minister. Pere:It was the usual Nigerian rumour mill at its best.That not withstanding, the President Shagaris administration set up a high powered Commission of Inquiry headed by Justice Ayo Irikefe,a distinguished and one of the upright judges to have graced the supreme court to investigate the matter.AFTER A THOROUGH JOB,THE COMMISSION CONCLUDED THAT NO SINGLE KOBO WAS MISSING FROM THE NNPC ACCOUNT.This is the epitome of incorruptibility. Danladi:Considering the fact that the North Central zone is predominantly Christians,how do I convince myself and the rest of the citizens to vote for Buhari?The impression out there is that he is an Islamist. Pere:That impression is a total fallacy.We all know that it was fabricated by a Lagos based newspaper to promote the campaign of President Obasanjo in 2003.BUHARI SIMPLY ASKED THE MUSLIM GATHERING HE WAS ADDRESSING TO VOTE FOR LEADERS THAT WILL PROMOTE THEIR INTEREST.The media led by a particular Newspaper that is pro PDP twisted the statement and used same as a campaign of calumny against Gen.Bauhari.They attacked Buhari for not condemning the introduction of sharia in Northern Nigeria and used same to propagate their negative agenda against him.The irony is that they supported Late President Umaru Musa Yaradua against him notwithstanding that the UMYA introduced sharia in Katsina state.Is there any other definition for hypocrisy?Thank God the food is finally here.I love the aroma and I am sure it is as healthy as it gets.Mixed sea food in fire pot is electric to say the least.Kindly beckon on the waitress to fill my wine glass. Danladi:I dont understand why you enjoy this mixture of fresh barracuda, shrimps,prawns,octopus,etc.Anyway it is not my business. Pere:Thank God you know that.Continue eating beef and mutton as is you are a lion. Danladi:But people still fear that he will favour Muslims against Christians.I need to properly convince myself before I can preach the message to my people. Pere:You have spoken well my good friend.The constitution of Nigeria will not allow any leader to subjugate other religions.Secondly, Buhari demonstrated his religious neutrality and fairness in the past.The records are there for anyone to see.He canceled government sponsorship of pilgrims to mecca in 1984 on the ground that it was discriminatory,he bulldozed mosques that were illegally constructed,he arrested and detained a number of Islamic preachers for their violent sermons,etc.This is the character of a fair and just leader.In fact a former Head of State, Gen.Abdulsalami Abubakar described him thus and I quote a leader of rare qualities and even rarer attributes.That is the man Buhari. Danladi:Hmmmmmm.Why are these facts hidden from the people? Pere: I suppose that question should be directed to the media whose calling is neutrality and fairness at all times. Ebitimi:The meal is good and I could have brought the starlet I met at the birthday party last night.At least to share this wonderful meal with me.Just to wet the ground. Pere:At times I wonder how you cope with your duties as a church elder.Madam go vex o! Ebitimi:I have not heard much about his agenda for national development.I am now convinced that he can fight corruption and reduce the menace drastically, how do we channel the proceeds saved from corruption?What about education,electricty,the economy, etc?I need answers to all these. Pere:I will simply declare that DEFEAT CORRUPTION AND ALL OTHER THINGS SHALL BE ADDED UNTO NIGERIA. I shall however update you on his education agenda.He is committed to appropriation of 26% of national budget to education as recommended by UNESCO.This policy shall ensure a rapid development in that sector.Considering that modern economic enhancement tools depends on quality education,this policy will position Nigeria in a proper competitive edge over other countries of the world.Part of his agenda includes the resuscitation of adequately funded scholarship system for indigent students as well as setting up of students loan board to give loans to students.Have you seen a better people oriented policy in education? Ebitimi:That sounds good indeed.I can see the connection between his educational policy and the creation wealth.Please tell me more. Pere:His attention is properly focused on manufacturing and agriculture.It is like a triangular linkage between education, agriculture and manufacturing.He believes that acquisition of specialized manpower is essential in agriculture and manufacturing.Creation of jobs in this sectors will compliment the communication and other service based industries.The beauty of his plan is that he planned a simple and reliable approach to electricity generation to engender economic growth.This plan includes the setting up of mini power generation stations using coal where available and gas for thermal generation.His attention is equally focused on the dams.THIS IS WHERE HIS INCORRUPTIBILITY SUFFICES:USAGE OF BUDGETED FUNDS FOR ELECTRICITY GENERATION WILL PERMANENTLY SOLVE THE PROBLEM.The message is say no to corruption and have electricity. Danladi:I must confess that my understanding of the Buhari Phenomenon has been enriched so far, but I need to know about his plans to eradicate the insecurity we have in the country at the moment. Pere:His antidote is identify perpetrators of violent crimes,community unrests and religious killings and punish them without fear or favour.He will restore Jos to its glory and tackle kidnappers all over the country.The Boko Haram will be history because he can deal with them decisively.During Shagaris regime, he as the GOC 3rd Division exterminated Chadians that encroached Nigerian territory.Remember is motto:IDENTIFY PERPETRATORS AND PUNISH THEM ACCORDINGLY WITHOUT FEAR OR FAVOUR.Please ask the waitress to provide us with dessert.It is our right. Danladi:I can deduce that his administration will be about action and not the usual I will do this or that. Pere:Exactly.He will as always allow his actions to speak for him instead of employing numerous spin doctors. Ebitimi:I am very convinced now that we have a president in waiting who is capable of taking us to the promised land.I will spread the gospel.What about other of his policies?I will need to let my people know of all his noble plans for the country. Danladi:I also want to know what the running mate will bring to the ticket.I am happy for this day as a Nigerian. Pere:We shall discuss more on his other policies during our next meeting.We shall meet again over lunch in a few days time to continue.But remember that Pastor Bakare is integrity personified and all that is good about Christendom.
