The Protestant Reformation saw that political society is of divine origin and that princes and rulers are agents of divine purpose responsible to God, directly. Today, we have a holy responsibility in voting, but would have more, if we selected the candidates we are being asked to vote for. Do MPs see themselves as doing holy work? Do civil servants, teachers, health workers? Just as the Church can infringe the politico-divine purpose of the State, and tell it what to do, raising itself over kings and princes (as in medieval times), the State can assert itself over the religious-divine areas of life, telling the Church what to do about the teaching of Christ. Balance is all....
