The RCH has incredible supporters like Uplift Events helping us achieve excellence through fundraisers like The Great Amazing Race. But this urban adventure race is a lot more than fun day out for some. For participants like Cam and Hannah of Team Millie, it’s the chance to honour their daughter’s memory and do something for the place that did so much for them. Millie regularly visited the RCH from birth, undergoing treatment for congenital heart disease. Unfortunately, she passed away from her heart condition at the age of eight, but Cam and Hannah have remained grateful to the hospital for the care she received. “Millie visited a lot of departments at the RCH and the holistic approach where everyone works together is significant,” says Hannah. “Not only did they care for Millie, the hospital staff, surgeons, doctors and nurses all supported us as a family with emotional support, accommodation and family resources.” Though they initially entered The Great Amazing Race as a “great distraction” from the loss of their daughter, Cam and Hannah now see it as a “great way to keep her memory alive.” To support Team Millie, visit their fundraising page: bit.ly/teammillie.
