The Retreat It has such a negative connotation. The word “retreat.” Evocative of failure Of needing to run away. But in another use It’s such a positive thing Necessary, even. We all need retreats Those calm, quiet places Where we find peace Where we find rest. Warm, soft envelopes Where we keep ourselves To ourselves. Secret solaces Hidden even from those we love the most. The beach Bach A hot bath Quiet walks or a cup of coffee and an old book in a café. No matter how much we love Or are loved These retreats are necessary. In fact in some ways These secret places are the very Reason why we love and are loved. Retreat is one thing A retreat is another One does, perhaps, hint at failure But the other is our own beautiful refuge. Treasure your retreat Respect the one that belongs to the one you love Find that soft, warm blanket Wrap yourself in it And keep peace.
