Ethiopia, a developing country nearly four times the size of California and with a population of over 80 million is in dire need of expanding its ability to provide healthcare, particularly in the area of trauma which exceeds all other illnesses as a cause of disability and death. Indeed some 50 million deaths per year Worldwide. The World Health Organization WHO estimates that 10 million children under the age of 5 die each year from lack of medical supplies. The Rotary Club of Clayton Valley Concord Sunrise Foundation undertook gathering $19,000 to pay for the transport of a container of $100,000 worth of medical supplies provided by Medshare, a non-profit institution with the motto: Bridging the Gap between Surplus and Need. Medshare has gathered over 2 million tons (worth over $100 million) of largely unused medical supplies and sent them to over 95 countries. The materials are all sorted, inspected and package by 1500 volunteers throughout three nationwide facilities.
