The Sabre Dance is a movement in the final act of Aram - TopicsExpress

The Sabre Dance is a movement in the final act of Aram Khachaturians ballet Gayane (1942), where the dancers display their skill with sabres. It is Khachaturians best known and most recognizable work. Its middle section is based on an Armenian folk song.According to Tigran Mansurian, it is a synthesis of an Armenian wedding dance tune from Gyumri tied in a saxophone counterpoint that seems to come straight from America. Love Sculptures (featuring Dave Edmunds) high speed version of the classical piece was released on the Parlophone label (R 5744), which reached No. 5 in the UK Singles Chart in December 1968. The recording was inspired by Keith Emersons classical rearrangements. Sabre Dance became a hit after receiving air play by British DJ John Peel. In December 1968, the UK music magazine, NME, reported that Love Sculpture had signed a US recording contract with London Records, guaranteeing £250,000. The band were also given an invitation to perform Sabre Dance live, on the German Beat-Club television programme of Radio Bremen, being broadcast in monochrome at that time. https://youtube/watch?v=ODuxKxw_OSM
