The SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund has just awarded an Animal Crisis Grant for animal food and supplies to the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary in Sierra Leon, West Africa. Tacugama was established in 1995 to rehabilitate confiscated, orphaned and abandoned chimpanzees with the aim to release them back into their natural habitat. Tacugama has recently seen a devastating impact on their tourism income due to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. This income would normally cover over 30% of their animal support budget. Tacugama currently houses 87 chimpanzees that are in different stages of rehabilitation.
