The South Bend Common Council is taking action when it comes to police department practices. On Monday night, the council adopted a resolution aiming to increase trust between residents and police officers. The resolution outlines five initiatives to help improve the relationship, including getting body cameras for officers, creating a citizens review board and a minority hiring program. Council Member Henry Davis Jr. said the community has been asking for these changes for a long time. “The council has been given opportunity to talk about this, they made it clear last night, as well as the citizens of South Bend, so mayor needs to engage those bodies so we come up with outcomes we are all looking for,” Davis said.
