The Special Announcement.... It is with a heavy filled heart that I tell you as my friends and supporters I will not be running in the next federal election. Having worked in the grassroots and trenches since my days in Winnipeg I have dedicated much of my childhood and youth to working for our great party, the Liberal Party of Canada. Getting elected in 2004 and making history as one of the first women of Indian origin elected to parliament in the western world, one of the first Sikh women to be elected in Canada and one of the youngest MPs was a testament to the hallmarks of equality, acceptance, tolerance and respect of our great country and spoke to the core values of our great party. However after almost 10 years- and 4 elections , and a 24/7 commitment to my constituents and constituency of Brampton Springdale it is now time to shift back into the role of volunteer and community building. It has been a difficult decision as there is overwhelming support from local liberals, Bramptonians and so many Canadians. To all the supporters that have been there for me since day one I say...Youve always been there for me and I will always be there for you. As Hilary Clinton said...some may lead and some may follow but we can never go it alone Pls dont be discouraged because we are all one liberal family and have much work to do to elect a Liberal Government and Justin Trudeau as the next Prime Minister of Canada. My heart is full of gratitude to each and everyone of you...thousands of you knocked on doors, you made the phone calls, you put up signs in rain, sun, and snow, you argued with your friends, you invested and you cared so much for me, our team, our community and our great country. Your passion has inspired me, your words have touched me, your love has humbled me and to all of you I am forever and ever grateful. As we begin this new chapter in our journey together I am filled with hope and driven by hardwork. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you have done for me, for our party, for Brampton and for our country. You are all shining stars. Lets get to work.
