The Spill Magazine NEWS: Dan Mangan & Blacksmith REVEALS NEW SONG “MOUTHPIECE”: ALBUM CLUB MEDS OUT JAN 13 VIA Arts & Crafts Dan Mangan + Blacksmith recently premiered the captivating Ben Clarkson-directed animated video for “Vessel”, the lead single from its upcoming new studio album Club Meds and a part of the soundtrack for Simon Pegg’s indie film Hector And The Search For Happiness. The two time JUNO-Award Winner and Polaris Music Prize Shortlisted artist also announced coast to coast tour dates with label mate Hayden. Now, SPIN has premiered the “enthralling” new song “Mouthpiece” calling it “passionately delivered” and praising its “fast-paced, springy drumbeat and hard-hitting acoustic, followed by Mangans bittersweet baritone”. Of “Mouthpiece” Dan Mangan says, “This song means a lot to me. It took me months and months to feel like the lyrics were “finished”. It’s a rant. It’s nearly a tirade. It’s a lot of thoughts about our collective willingness to put faith in hunches, and disregard the material evidence that is not only surrounding us currently, but available in abundance from the successes/failures of our past. Its also about the pack mentality. The need to feel comfortable. Its about censorship. Its about not questioning your subordinance lest the privileges you have be taken away.” LISTEN & SHARE “MOUTHPIECE” HERE: https://soundcloud/artsandcrafts/dan-mangan-blacksmith-1/s-sWKTU Dan Mangan + Blacksmith is currently on the road with Bear’s Den for a month long tour of the U.S and recently announced a coast to coast run of Canadian dates in early 2015. Commencing February 18 in Halifax at the Rebecca Cohen Theatre and finishing up with a two night stand at the Vogue Theatre in Vancouver on March 13 and 14, the band will be joined by label mate Hayden and Calgary’s Astral Swans. Tickets are on sale now via all regular ticket outlets. All tour dates are listed below and can also be found HERE. About Dan Mangan + Blacksmith: After a two year hiatus, an induction into fatherhood, and some time to regroup, two-time JUNO Award-winner Dan Mangan has returned under a new moniker, Dan Mangan + Blacksmith. The new name encompasses the spirit of the project’s longstanding ensemble members joining the band from Vancouvers experimental music community, Kenton Loewen, Gordon Grdina, John Walsh (and often Jesse Zubot, JP carter and Tyson Naylor) with a communal sensibility that merits the marquee amendment. About Club Meds: Produced by Colin Stewart and Dan Mangan, Club Meds at times evokes images of subtler American-underground innovators like Blonde Redhead or Steve Reich. At other moments, it hits emotional pay dirt reminiscent of British scene-survivors like Peter Gabriel or Radiohead. Blacksmith brings an unmistakable character to Club Meds; a stark glassy edge that swells and sways like a roaring ocean. Through a fog of analog feedback loops and synths, the bands performances breathe deeply and steadily like a dragon at rest.
