The State is activating the Emergency Operations Center ahead of a lake effect winter storm. Western and Central New York through Watertown is expected to see heavy snow, high winds, and extreme cold. Parts of NYS Thruway will close to all traffic at midnight this evening due to high winds, extremely low temperatures, and lake effect snow. A Thruway tractor trailer ban is in effect beginning tonight at 9 p.m. Take necessary precautions to stay safe during the storm, and avoid our roads and highways where possible.
