The Story Of The 2 Stones There was once in a village a farmer who had no money to repay a large sum of money to a very ugly old man. As the farmer had a very lovely girl who pleased the old money-lender a lot, he proposed a deal. He says hed erased the farmer debt if he could marry his daughter. The farmer and his daughter were both horrified by this proposal. Then the old money-lender suggested that fate determines the outcome of the proposal. He told them that he would put a white stone and a black stone in an empty money bag, and that the girl would have to get, blindly, one of the two stones in the bag. 1) if she gets the black stone, she became his wife and her fathers debt is cleared. 2) if she gets the white stone, she dont have to marry him and her fathers debt is also cancelled 3) if she refuses to get a stone, her father is thrown in prison. This discussion took place on the path in front of the farmers house, and the ground was strewn with stones. While continuing to talk, the ugly old man leaned to pick up the two stones. As he picked them, the young girl who had a keen eye, noticed that he had picked two black stones and that he had put them in the bag. But she says nothing. Then the old lender asked the young daughter to get it in the bag. Imagine what you would have done if you had been there. What would you have advised the girl to do? If we analyse well, there are 3 possibilities: 1) the daughter should decline to get a stone 2) the daughter should get out the two black stones of the bag, showing that the old cheated 3) the daughter should get the black stone and sacrifice herself by marrying the old to spare her father the imprisonment Take a moment to think of this situation. This story is meant to make you appreciate the difference between the logical thinking and the so-called lateral thinking.
