The Superlative Difference By Chief FAMA Ifa says in part in one of its verses: “Ifa bi okun Ifa bi ide,” ati bee bee lo. ENGLISH Comparatively, Ifa glitters if crystalized Superlatively, Ifa glitters more than anything imaginable. In Ifa tradition, and when it is used, “Ifa bi okun, Ifa bi ide” expresses a Babalawo’s profound appreciation for Ifa’s manifested influence on an issue or event. As it was in ancient time, so it is in our modern time. When something great happens beyond expectation—a phenomenon--as humans, we become spellbound. The detecting mind starts to trace the momentum of the event up to its climax. Knowing that Ifa is not a myth, convinced that Ifa is abstract and in the spirit, and having witnessed the manifestation of great things influenced by Ifa, the Babalawo conclusively praises Odumare, through Ifa, once again, by saying, “Ifa bi okun / Ifa bi ide.” Regardless of our spiritual affiliations, something central in humans’ psycho-spiritual being is the expectation of the best outcome of our human actions, deeds, wishes, the purity or otherwise of our thoughts and mindsets. However, a celebrated joyful outcome means the preceded action was built on that expectation: positive action and positive outcome. So, great people, let us borrow from another Ifa’s eon wisdom that states, “A o je ere ise owo wa” (we will reap the reward of what we sow, in real life time, too), and inject a positive, new beginning into our deeds and actions. Hopefully with that mindset, we, too, can fully understand and appreciate the Babalawo’s rapturous acknowledgment of “Ifa bi okun, Ifa bi ide.” With that, I wish all of us greatness, this day that has just began to evolve, still evolving, or has progressed to some extent, at our different locations in our shared world, and as Odumare had deliberately calibrated it. Peace, love and blessings, ase. Aboru aboye Chief FAMA Ileorunmila
