The Supreme Court of India has ordered status quo on three temples here, they are Sai Baba temple at Khannagar, Gayatri temple at Tulasipur and Ram temple at Chahata. The direction came in response to special leave petitions filed by the trust board of the three temples. Counsel of the petitioners said, the division bench of Justices Gyan Sudha Mishra and Madan B Lokur stayed demolition of these temples and directed the state government to file reply to the allegations. The petitioners have alleged that the district administration was carrying out the demolition drive in violation of the Supreme Court order, which clearly stated that religious structures constructed after September, 2009, should be razed. Besides, the court had directed for steps to regularize temples, which were not creating traffic congestion or any civic problem.
