The Suriname government says it will start turning off air - TopicsExpress

The Suriname government says it will start turning off air conditioning units within its offices as the country comes to grip with an energy crisis. “Government will start by giving the correct example. Civil servants have been instructed to turn off their air-conditioning systems, but not between 10.00am and 2.00pm (local time),” said President Desi Bouterse as he urged citizens to follow suit. Biuterse told legislators that those six hours are the warmest during the day and would also allow for the government to reduce expenditure. He said that while the energy shortage is caused by a natural phenomenon, the government still owed the nation an apology on how it had been dealing with the crisis. “The energy shortage is caused by the El Nino weather event, which is a circumstance beyond our control,” Bouterse said, adding his administration had been warned but failed to take action on a timely basis.
