The Tampa Bay Juniors Empire and Elite teams took part in the USPHLs New England Winter Showcase this past weekend. On Friday, January 9th, the Empire Juniors topped the Junior Bruins 2-0. Michael Demiceli and Mason Ledbetter scored goals, while Sam Coleman made 31 saves. Tampa Bay was 1-for-2 on the power play and 3-of-3 on the penalty kill. In their second game of the day, the Empire Juniors beat the P.A.L. Junior Islanders 6-2. Michael Demicelli scored 3 goals, Steven Noyes had 2 goals and 2 assists and Mason Ledbetter scored the other goal. Nick Levesque stopped 27 shots for Tampa Bay, which went 2-for-6 on the power play and 2-of-2 on the penalty kill. Also on Friday the 9th, the Elite Juniors edged the Islanders Hockey Club 3-2 in overtime. Trey Stern and Richard Foy scored in regulation, Brandon Goudreau scored the winner 6 seconds into the extra session. Michael Krch made 22 saves for Tampa Bay, which went 1-for-6 on the power play and 3-of-3 on the power play. In their second game on the opening day of the showcase, Tampa Bay were edged by the Bay State Breakers 3-2. Trey Stern and Tucket Barone scored for the Juniors, Jeff Gardner made 26 saves. Tampa Bay was 0-for-3 on the power play and 3-of-3 on the penalty kill. On Saturday, January 10th, Mason Ledbetter scored and Zac Gazzanna made 12 saves, as Tampa Bay slipped past Adirondack 1-0. The Juniors were 0-for-2 on the power play and 2-of-2 on the penalty kill. Also on Saturday the 10th, the Elite Juniors knocked off the Jersey Hitmen 2-1. Second half goals from Nick Frankich and Christopher Astrom proved to be the difference in the contest, in which Michael Krch had 20 saves. Tampa Bay was 1-for-2 on the power play and 6-of-6 on the penalty kill. On Sunday, January 10th, the Empire Juniors capped a perfect weekend with an impressive 7-1 win over Rochester. Mason Ledbetter scored twice, Billy Gardner, Michael Demiceli, Max Mulholland, Jonathan Grodzki and Benoit Chin scored once each, with Chin adding 4 assists. Sam Coleman made 23 saves for the Juniors, who were 2-for-5 on the power play and 3-of-4 on the penalty kill. Also on Sunday the 10th, the Elite Juniors ended their showcase play with a 7-2 loss to the Junior Bruins. Tampa Bay goals were scored by Romain Wild and Brock Thompson, while Michael Krch made 23 saves. The Juniors were 0-for-1 on the power play and 0-for-0 on the penalty kill. Tampa Bays next action is this coming weekend. On Saturday, January 17th, the Juniors host the Florida Eels. The Elite game starts at 5:15pm EST and the Empire game gets underway at 8:00pm EST. On Sunday the 18th, the Empire team has the day off, while the Elite team hosts the Eels, with face off set for 1:30pm EST. All three games will air on Fasthockey.
