The Temple is always a place that has a profound effect on - TopicsExpress

The Temple is always a place that has a profound effect on me. One of the lesser-known aspects of the Temple is the connection with the Lamplighters. David Best has always encouraged a connection between our processional and the Temple. We have, on occasion, been able to put lamps inside or around the Temple as part of each evening ceremony. Last year, I got to participate in one of the stronger bonds between Temple and Lamplighting - recovery crew. Before the Temple burns, a group of Lamplighters places old and broken lamps around the Temple. While it burns, the heat becomes so intense that it melts the glass globes, and often distorts the metal frame of the lamp. After the fire begins to die out, a group of Lamplighters goes back into the Temple ashes, wearing protective gear, and carefully pulls the hot lamps back out of the ashes. Its hot, dangerous work, but it creates some interesting artwork out of the lamps. These are usually given to members of Lamplighting that have experienced loss over the past year, or have done extra service to the community.
