The Torah is also a shira – a song of “call and response.” - TopicsExpress

The Torah is also a shira – a song of “call and response.” The Torah, so to speak, calls out to humans in expectation of their response. Observance of the commandments is a response to its exalted call, and from within it is created a “song of deeds,” a shira for your mouth and your heart. The Torah plucks every string of the human soul; the soul responds and is given entirely over to song. ~From Rav Bigmans book The Fire and The Cloud (Translation of יודוך רעיוניי): that notion of the human heart as an inner harp being played and emitting the music of life has stuck with me over the years. the challenge then is to quiet down and become still enough to let that happen. then the music that emerges through us is not of us; rather, we become the instrument of Creations song. and from Samuel T Coleridge: And what if all of animated nature Be but organic Harps diversely framed, That tremble into thought, as o’er them sweeps Plastic and vast, one intellectual breeze, At once the Soul of each, and God of all?
