The Transient Killer Whale Research Project was invited by the Royal BC Museum to perform two necropsies. One animal was a Dalls porpoise and the other a harbor porpoise. Both were killed by transient killer whales. Our report showed that the juvenile Dalls porpoise was a 2-4 week old nursing female. Her mortality was confirmed and showed internal bleeding and a punctured diaphragm. We also found 11 broken ribs, large lacerations (rake marks), post mortem hematoma, and three puncture marks. Big thanks to the Royal BC Museum for allowing us to attend and perform this interesting event. Photograph 1: Rake mark Photograph 2: Josh McInnes and Dr. Lynette Browne examining porpoise.
