“The Truth is out There” I wonder how many remember this - TopicsExpress

“The Truth is out There” I wonder how many remember this quotation from the X-Files??? This was followed by many adoring fans and although it was a figment of one’s imagination I daresay there were those that believed it was true. The fact that one can deceive so many people with latitude regarding the truth has sadly manifested itself in the world of breeding and showing dogs. So what is the truth and would we know it if it presented itself to us. I can unequivocally say that after a lifetime in dogs I no longer know who is totally honest and can be trusted with our breed. There are so many reasons why we own dogs. (1) We just love them for what they are. Totally dependable and of great comfort and joy to so many people regardless of any health issues or faults that they may have. In other words just a lover of ALL dogs. (2) Those that find them their only source of income and can keep them in appalling conditions without any compassion. (3) Those that enjoy the camaraderie and sportsmanship of participating with their dogs at competitive events and both enjoy life to the full. (4) There are then the so called Doyens of our breed who would deem themselves to be Guardians and Elitists that say they breed to the standards set out for us by our peers and their objectives is protecting these standards. The TRUTH is many of them that should know better are disingenuous with the truth and it seems to me that the higher up the tree they progress the more Machiavellian they become with the Truth. They lecture us on standards and emphasise the importance of adhering to the standards set out by the A.D.R.K and also become members of this association but sadly this is only a token gesture of smoke screens and mirrors as they personally do not abide by the very rules that is obligatory within breeding guides of The A.D.R.K. They breed dogs that are not Hip Scored, They breed dogs with horrendous Hip Scores and some are also Championship Judges. Why can we not just tell the truth about breeding???? The reason for this preamble is that I was the originator of the article on Long Coats that was published in several breed club magazines and has recently resurfaced with a certain degree of acrimonious comments. Firstly I must declare that as far as the list of people having dogs I am of the volition of being first and foremost (1) I love all dogs regardless of their faults or their health issues. AS an owner of Long coated G.S.D. many decades ago I never had a problem with them. I just loved them but was not involved in showing or breeding. They were just beautiful companions. There is much controversy once again within our breed regarding long coats and I have already declared my opinions on the aforementioned article which I will link below. My point is just this. Be honest. If you have them love them. If you hold yourself in esteem as an Ethical Breeder you should not be deliberately breeding for something that is not in the standard you portray to be the guardian of. Carrier to Carrier WILL produce Long Coats. You are not understanding or avoiding facts if you think otherwise. If you think it is still in betterment of the breed just say YES I will breed for the overall improvement knowing I will produce long coats. That is your entitlement but do not have double standards.
