The Tuskogee Study - A 41 year case of where the US Public Health purposefully tricked a group of 400 African American men into signing up for a free health program, where they would receivefree physician care and oversight of their health. It turns out that the men were in fact receiving syphillis injections, for the purpose of giving them syphillis. Then, once the individual had syphillis, the government wanted to see if whites and African Americans physically responded the same or differently to the disease, in terms of disease markers and other signs and symptoms. The government doctors gave the tricked participants incorrect information, when the study participants questioned why they felt sick. The doctors also gave the participants incorrect/trick answers when participants asked about injuries and bruises they had. The exposure of this story in the 1970s changed the ways that individuals were enrolled in research studies. youtube/watch?v=x-YMdaEdbcg
