The Twelve BASICS #8… Practice identification, by faith, with the crucified and risen indwelling Christ… The following is a series of twelve writings on the subject of the BASICS… Believers Acquiring Spiritual Insights and Character Scripturally…. I am convinced that this is one of the most neglected BASIC spiritual and scriptural disciplines and is one of the most essential if one is going truly experience a spiritual, scriptural, and supernatural victorious Christian life, through faith, in the crucified and risen LORD Jesus Christ living His resurrected spiritual life in and through the believer. Practice identification or purpose to spiritually and scripturally identify, by faith, with the crucified and risen indwelling Christ… The Apostle Paul’s testimony was and ours should be: I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me (We must learn to practice identification or purpose to spiritually and scripturally identify, by faith, with the crucified and risen indwelling Christ. Such will not just happen by spiritual osmosis or spontaneous spiritual, scriptural, and supernatural movement.): and the life (one natural human functions) which I now live in the flesh (the body) I live by the faith (Faith is the key that unlocks the spiritual, scriptural, and supernatural reality of practicing identification or purposing to spiritually and scripturally identify, by faith, with the crucified and risen indwelling Christ.) of the Son of God (The title Son of God references the incarnated deity of the LORD Jesus Christ.), who loved me, and gave himself (Jesus Christ sacrificially died for us that we might have eternal life, the forgiveness of sins, and newness of life by practicing identification or purposing to spiritually and scripturally identify, by faith, with the crucified and risen Christ.) for me. Galatians 2:20 (To be able to competently practice this BASIC spiritual and scriptural discipline, it takes comprehension, choice, commitment, consistency, continuance, claiming such by faith, and celebrating such with praise and thanksgiving. Galatians 2:20 is a great verse to make a regular meditation verse and to prayerfully etch it into your spiritual and scriptural mental set or the transforming of your mind, through repetitiously thinking upon it, by God’s grace, through faith.) Practice identification or purpose to spiritually and scripturally identify, by faith, with the crucified and risen indwelling Christ if you are going to victoriously overcome sin… (1) What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace (Grace is God’s unmerited and undeserved favor, goodness, and blessings; which is received by humbling one’s self before God and receiving His grace, by faith.) may abound (What is your attitude towards sin? Are you seeking by God’s grace to NOT sin, or are you because of God’s grace continuing to sin.)? (2) God forbid (This short prayer should be upon each of our lips: God, with your help, may I/we NOT continue in sin.). How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? (Therefore, we could ask here; how did we become dead to sin? With the scriptural answer to follow in the text…) (3) Know (This is to know with certainty; note verses 6:3,6, and 9. This is applied knowledge by faith. We must always go beyond intellectual perception of God and His truth and apply such by faith that yields whole heartily to such truth and to God.) ye not, that so many of us as were baptized (spiritually immersed) into Jesus Christ were baptized (spiritually immersed) into his death (At the cross our sin nature was crucified with Jesus Christ.)? (4) Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory (spiritual, scriptural, and supernatural manifestation) of the Father, even so we also should walk (to keep in step with or follow after) in newness of life (The word life is referencing eternal life, which begins the moment we are saved. Such is the earthly reality of a spiritual, scriptural, and supernatural relationship to God the Father and the LORD Jesus Christ; see John 17:1-3; as well as, the future reality of being with God the Father and the LORD Jesus Christ in heaven in the eternal realm of God’s existence; see 2 Corinthians 5:1-9.). (5) For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection (Because of our spiritual identification with the death and resurrection of Christ, we are now alive unto newness of life and God, through Jesus Christ our LORD.): (6) Knowing (This is to know with certainty; note 6:3, 6, and 9. This is applied knowledge by faith. We must always go beyond intellectual perception of God and His truth and apply such by faith that yields whole heartily to such truth and to God.) this, that our old man (the sin nature) is crucified with him (See Galatians 2:20.), that the body of sin might be destroyed (The idea here is not one of annihilation or eradication, but one of the sin nature being render inoperative if the believer allows such to be experienced by practicing identification or to purposing to spiritually and scripturally identify, by faith, with the crucified and risen indwelling Christ to victoriously overcome sin.), that henceforth we should not serve sin. (7) For he that is dead is freed from sin. (8) Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: (9) Knowing (This is to know with certainty; note 6:3, 6, and 9. This is applied knowledge by faith. We must always go beyond intellectual perception of God and His truth and apply such by faith that yields whole heartily to such truth and to God.) that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion (power, authority) over him. (10) For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. (11) Likewise reckon (count it to be so or as a fact) ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. (12) Let not (This is a matter of choice, contriteness, commitment, comprehension of the texts truth, claiming the texts truths by faith, continuance in such truth, and consistency.) sin therefore reign in your mortal (human temporal) body, that ye should obey it in the lusts (carnal human sinful desires) thereof. (13) Neither yield ye (Again, this is a matter of choice, contriteness, commitment, comprehension of the texts truth, claiming the texts truths by faith, continuance in such truth, and consistency.) your members (body) as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God (See Romans 12:1-2. I believe a sincere believer will initially come to time when they realize the necessity of and they seek to whole heartily commit to the LORDSHIP of Christ, and thereon after they will continue to moment by moment such, by practicing repentance towards God and faith towards the LORD Jesus Christ.). (14) For sin shall not have dominion (power, authority) over you: for ye are not under the law (Under the law one would continue in sin and be condemned by the law.), but under grace (Under grace one is both free from the control of sin and the condemnation of sin if they receive the truths of the text by faith.). Romans 6:1-14 Practicing identification or purposing to spiritually and scripturally identify, by faith, with the crucified and risen indwelling Christ will not only enable you to be victoriously overcome sin, but over Satan and the solicitations of the world to do evil… Victoriously overcome Satan: (8) He that committeth (practices sin without true repentance of such) sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy (spiritually, scripturally, and supernaturally break up) the works of the devil (Positionally the devil has been completely defeated, but for a little time the LORD allows him to operate his evil plans.). (9) Whosoever is born of God (See John 3:1-16.) doth not commit sin; (The believer does practice sin, but rather practices repentance of sin towards God and faith towards the resurrected LORD Jesus Christ living in and through the believer for the glory of God, His spiritual, scriptural, and supernatural manifestation.) for his seed (This seems to reference the indwelling LORD Jesus Christ.) remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. (10) In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth (practices) not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth (This is the manifestation of God’s love not human affection.) not his brother. 1John 3:8-10 Victoriously overcome the solicitations of the world to do evil: (4) For whatsoever is born of God (One who is saved a believer in Jesus Christ, as one’s Saviour, God, and LORD.) overcometh the world (The satanic system, whether secular or religious, of people, philosophies, practices, pursuits, pleasures, passions, and purposes that exalt themself against Sovereign God, and the absolute authority of the Scriptures, the Bible.): and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith (Now faith [credence, conviction, realization] is the substance [confidence] of things [comprehension of spiritual, spiritual, and supernatural events or actions] hoped [to confide or expect] for, the evidence [conviction, reality] of things not seen [Faith comprehends the spiritual, scriptural, and supernatural events or actions in the eternal realm or existence of God, God willing such, before God manifests such in the earthly visible realm or existence of the believer.]. Hebrews 11:1). (5) Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? (Faith is the key that unlocks the treasure chest of heaven and the riches of God’s grace. By which God will supply all our needs in this life and surely in the one to come.) 1John 5:4-5 By the way, if you truly want revival in your local church teach the brethren consistently to practice the BASICS and you got a revival started.
