The UKSSA in association with Kryptonics put on a slalom jam as part of the Long Live Southbank “One Year On” Anniversary in London last Sunday. Riders had unlimited runs in the allotted hour, fastest clean run would be counted. Kryptonics Star Trac wheels would be awarded for the fastest clean runs in each of the three classes Novice, Am and Master (45+). Cones were spaced 5ft centres and with the space limited by PA speakers and street furniture the course was just 14 cones making for a flat out sprint and gave the spectators another aspect of skateboarding to watch – a break from the usual Ollieing, flipping and grinding. At 12 o’clock the jam began and crowds pressed up against the railings to gain a good vantage point. Louis and Harry were providing great entertainment as each tore through the course trying to better the others time. As the session went on everyone was getting faster and faster and wowing the onlooker’s right up to the final run. Sadly there were no serious Novice attempts therefore their prize would go to the Ams. Louis Selby put in the fastest time of the day with 3.480 but being a sponsored Pro racer was out of the prize equation but he really pushed Harry Phelps hard. Perhaps it was this that helped get the fastest Am time of the day with 3.512. In second place with a very impressive performance was Amaury Dumont with a time of 3.952. Both riders were presented with a set of 60mm Blue Kryptonics for their performances by UK Brand Ambassador Rob Ashby. In the Masters it was OG Southbank slalomer Chris Charalambous that took top spot with a very respectable 4.341 and winning a set of 60mm Reds. Thanks to Henry, Rod and all the LLSB Crew for a great day, to all that took part and big thanks to Michael Stride and Octane Sport for the timing system and logistical support.
