The US Navy is now officially in the drone world as well. Will they be launching drones over the US or foreign enemy nations? ---------------------------------- The X-47B landed on the deck of the USS Bush, steaming 80 miles of the coast of Norfolk, Va., at 1:40 pm. The drone had taken off from Patuxent Naval Air Station in Maryland escorted by two Navy F/A-18 fighter planes. After the first landing, the crew of the Bush turned the drone around and catapulted it off the ship for a second go around, amid applause and cheers of the assembled sailors. Unlike Air Force and CIA drones, which are remotely piloted, the Navy drones fly autonomously with the planes’ robot brain making the split second calculations necessary to conduct an arrested landing on the deck of a moving ship. As a result, the X-47B is likely to usher in a new era of unmanned drones in addition to transforming Naval aviation. Future drones are likely to do more and more operations automatically. blogs.wsj/washwire/2013/07/10/navy-drone-successfully-lands-on-aircraft-carrier/?mod=WSJ_hpp_MIDDLENexttoWhatsNewsForth
