The Umbrella Man If it is true that graveyards are reservoirs - TopicsExpress

The Umbrella Man If it is true that graveyards are reservoirs of supernatural energy, then the Cemetery Belt of western Queens must be a vast lake. The inhabitant that most clearly emphasizes this may be Queens resident Umbrella Man. Little is truly known about the Umbrella Man; even its name is a misnomer. Whether it be man, woman, or something else entirely is hard to determine because only the jeans and boots that it wears are visible. The upper torso is hidden by the massive umbrella it holds, its diameter large enough to fully cover three grown men standing in a straight line. No matter how many people look at the Umbrella Man, and no matter which direction they are looking at it in, the umbrella always seems tipped forward so that the upper body is covered. The Umbrella Man only appears at night, and even then only during heavy rain. It walks quietly, the massive umbrella twirling as the creature moves along 71st Avenue, going from 80th street to 79th Place and back again. Every so often it will stop in front of one of the warehouses, the third on the left from 80th, and stand still for a minute or two before continuing its journey. It continues on this narrow path, going back and forth and back again, until it stops raining or the sun rises (whichever comes first). The only other distinguishing characteristic of the Umbrella Man is the college textbook it carries around; each time the entity appears, it carries a different textbook. Some say that the Umbrella Man is a college student or professor, murdered on their way home some stormy night and interred at the nearby Saint Johns Cemetery. These stories are vague though, and no name has been attached to Umbrella Man. If you were to walk up to Umbrella Man, it would ignore you until you asked it a question. It is only then that it stops, answering your inquiry in an eerily raspy and androgynous voice. It will answer any question that doesnt directly concern itself, even on topics that it shouldnt know anything about. This has led some to believe that Umbrella Man isnt a ghost, but rather Something that can only manifest in our world when certain conditions are met. Though it is impossible to prove them true, Umbrella Man does have answers for the impossible questions in life. Be warned, though, that once it places an idea in your head, that thought can be very hard to get rid of. While it may be tempting to go out and ask it questions, you must be prepared for whatever answers follow.
