The Unsung Heros - SAPS Forensics I started volunteer work in - TopicsExpress

The Unsung Heros - SAPS Forensics I started volunteer work in my community 6 years ago. One immediate challange presented itself. SAPS Forensics only visited about 35 - 45% of our crime scenes where forensic evidence was possible. One of our key objectives was to ensure we improve this percentage. Im proud to say that today SAPS Forensics attend 75%-85% of applicable crime scenes in this sector. It was not an easy road. Many, many, telephone calls. Countless hours in meetings with SAPS and pure determination by our CPF patrollers - who engage with SAPS and insist Forensics come when they are needed. Waiting. Phoning. Asking. Educating our residents about the importance of this evidence.......make sure forensics come - phone us if they dont we will escalate. We have reaped the rewards. One prolific suspect arrested this year Two Boy Zitha was linked to no less than 15 house break ins in the precinct, you guessed it, based on forensic evidence obtained at the crime scenes. Another suspect arrested by CPF patrollers was linked to 4 house break ins in and around the golf course. And of course just last month a killer, a murderer, was linked to a murder scene on one partial palm print obtained at the scene which he left against a cupboard door as he stuffed his victim into the wardrobe. Forensics broke the back of house breakers in my sector not handguns, not R1 police issue rifles. Forensics and good detective work. People talk of vigilantes. Vigilantise dont convict criminals. Evidence does. We are nothing without SAPS. From a CPF that has seen a 50% reduction in priority crimes we must acknowledge our partners in policing - SAPS and specifically SAPS Forensics. Strengthen these organisations I say. Give them the the resources they need for they are indispensable in the fight against crime and you are always welcome in my neck of the woods. My heros.
