The Uplifting Word/Acts 27. Paul & several prisoners were placed in Roman custody & placed on a ship that was scheduled to make several stops at ports along the coast.1-2 Paul was allowed to visit friends at Sidon & afterwards passed ports & had slow going & difficulties as the wind was against them & they lost a lot of time. The sea had become dangerous because it was fall & Paul warned them of danger ahead. 3-19. The weather changed to winds of Typhoon strength & blew the ship out to sea. The sailed along the sheltered side of a small island Cauda & with great difficulty they hoisted aboard a life boat. 14-16. A gale force wind continued to batter the ship, the crew began throwing some cargo & gear overboard. The storm raged for many days blotting out the sun & stars until all hope was gone. No one had eaten for a long time.Paul told them,. “But take courage, None of you will lose your lives even though the ship will go down, for an angel of the Lord told me, ‘Paul you will stand trial before Caesar & God has granted safety to everyone sailing with you’. We will be ship wrecked on an island.”21-25. The sailors tried to abandon ship when they thought they were headed for rocks but Paul told them they would die if they abandoned the boat . Paul urged them to eat, for not a hair of your head will perish. The crew threw the wheat overboard to lighten the ship. Next day they ran the ship aground in order to get to the shore, but hit a shoal & began to break apart.39-41. The soldiers wanted to kill the prisoners to make sure they did escape. But the commander wanted to spare Paul & ordered all who could swim to jump overboard first & make for land. The others held onto to planks or debris & everyone escaped to shore.42-44. Insight: God keeps his word even when it seems impossible.
