The Viera Wetlands were opened to the public for wildlife viewing - TopicsExpress

The Viera Wetlands were opened to the public for wildlife viewing and photography sometime around the year of 2001. Unfortunately, the Brevard County officials did not anticipate how popular the site would become. Certainly, they never realized that it would become a world known Hot Spot for bird watchers and wildlife photographers. As a result, the those Brevard County Officials never established a permanent funding source for maintaining the roads and other needs at the Viera Wetlands. Well, in December of 2012, the roads were in need of repair, and there was no money to do the job, especially with the economy in a state of recession. As a result, they repaired the roads closest to the entrance to the Viera Wetlands and closed the other 50% of roads that went through the back portions of the Wetlands. Unfortunately, those portions closed were some of the best places to photograph and observe many species of wildlife. The roads remained closed for several months until donations from private sources were able to provide funds for maintaining the roads. You can help the keep the roads open and provide funds for additional needed projects at the Viera Wetlands.. There is a donation box at the wetlands parking lot to raise funds to help defray the costs of road maintenance and fund other improvement projects. When you visit the Viera Wetlands, please place a small donation in this box.......
