The Wages of Fear (Le salaire de la peur) (Henri-Georges Clouzot - TopicsExpress

The Wages of Fear (Le salaire de la peur) (Henri-Georges Clouzot 1953) With this movie and his next feature Diabolique, Henri-Georges Clouzot earned the reputation of being the French Hitchcock but The Wages of Fear is easily the 1950s most tense, suspenseful edge of your seat thriller. The story involves a bunch of men from various backgrounds who have to transport trucks filled with highly volatile nitroglycerine through South America without the necessary safety precautions. If you havent seen this film but decide to watch it, do not turn it off during the set-up. Its also really good but what really makes this film something special is the second half of the movie, once the trucks start making their way. The Wages of Fear won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Festival and was later remade by William Friedkin as Sorcerer, which is a damn fine film in its own right but not as amazing as the original.
