The West Chester Area School District (WCASD) will host an information session on Thursday, January 22 for community members interested in running for the School Board in the May 2015 primary election. “School Board 101” will begin at 7 p.m. in the Spellman Administration Building and will feature discussions on board member candidacy, roles and responsibilities, ballot and election process, and more. Speakers will include Jim Scanlon, Superintendent of the WCASD; Janet McNally, Director of Education and Training at the Pennsylvania School Boards Association; and Jim Forsythe, Director of Chester County Voter Services. There will be time at the end of the program for attendees to ask questions. Community members interested in attending “School Board 101” must submit their RSVP to Linda Wesley via phone: 484-266-1018 or email: [email protected] by Wednesday, January 21. The WCASD School Board is comprised of nine directors who serve four-year terms. In October, the Chester County Court approved the WCASD’s proposed change in the election process for filling Board seats, which created three voter regions instead of the ‘at large’ system originally in place. Elections are held every odd-numbered year, with four to five directors generally elected at any one time. For the May, 2015 primary there will be five school board seats up for election. Each region will have the following number of positions available: ◦Region 1 – 2 vacant seats ◦Region 2 – 2 vacant seats ◦Region 3 – 1 vacant seat
